In 1911 census (still at) 18 Coldharbour Lane, Camberwell with wife Mabel and daughter Ivy Mabel (aged 4) He obviously enlisted in the army during First World War. The London Gazette of 16/11/1917 has his promotion from private to temp 2nd Lieutenant. Another entry of 20/5/1919 has his promotion to Temp Lieutenant. His war record shows he was in France from 30th October 1915, first in the Army Service Corps (ASC) then the Labour Corp; Finally he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and served in the Chinese Labour Corps. He was awarded the so-called 15 Star medal, the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. |
